History

Since 2010, our mission has been to transform the vision and reality of the most vulnerable children and adolescents in Colombia, promoting respect and human dignity, and offering them spaces free from violence, abuse, and crime. Through artistic education and value-based instruction, we seek to improve the quality of life for this population and their families, building a future filled with opportunities and dignity.

The non-profit organization Casa Barco School of Arts, was created in 2010 by María Laura Quintero Dangond. During her visits to marginalized neighborhoods in Valledupar, her hometown, she was deeply impacted by the harsh and raw reality in which thousands of children and young people live, facing abuse, abandonment, and crime daily. Driven by the dream of establishing a school, a safe place for children and young people to freely develop, Casa Barco was founded in 2015. Since then, over 700 children from the most underprivileged backgrounds have participated in the "Marineros del Arte" program, receiving education in arts and values.

Additionally, we have provided over 300 training sessions in various soft skills for parents, aiming to foster entrepreneurship, combat unemployment, and reduce extreme poverty, along with psychosocial support for families.
